Anglesey's fine dining restaurant Y Parlwr closes with immediate effect

The fine dining spin-off of beach house restaurant and bar Sandy Mount House on Anglesey in North Wales has announced its closure after a year of trading.

Owners of the Out of the Blue Group, which operates both sites, closed the 16-cover restaurant in the beach town of Rhosneigr over the weekend.

Y Parlwr opened early last year after a £500,000 refurbishment, with executive chef Hefin Roberts and chef Ffion Maple offering a 10-course tasting menu for the intimate dining space down the street from the Sandy Mount.

In a statement on Instagram the restaurant said despite critical acclaim and an award of two AA rosettes they "just can't make it work financially".

"This decision was not made lightly and we have wrestled with it, dedicating considerable time to exploring options to sustain the restaurant, but without success," they said.

"The choice to close stems from persistent financial challenges exacerbated by rising energy costs, the ongoing cost of living crisis, and price hikes in other areas of the business; burdens that, like you, we have shouldered, but there comes a point where we can do so no longer.

"Our inaugural year at Y Parlwr has been filled with moments of warmth, love and support from each one of you, for which we are immensely grateful."

The Sandy Mount House is still trading as normal and Roberts remains executive chef of the brasserie, which remains popular with holiday makers and locals.
