Compass wins Moorfields Eye Hospital contract
Medirest, the healthcare arm of Compass Group UK & Ireland, has signed a three-year contract with Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to deliver catering and facilities management services.
From this month, the contract caterer will supply catering and cleaning solutions for the UK's leading eye hospital in East London.
Medirest will deliver services for patient catering, private patient catering, cleaning, vending, and security. Meanwhile Medirest will also oversee the hospital's retail offering including a Wellspring Restaurant and a new wellbeing area for use by the hospital's 2,400 staff.
A social enterprise coffee shop Change Please will also be introduced, which helps homeless people through the sales of hot drinks.
Meanwhile patients will benefit from Medirest's Steamplicity cooking system which cooks fresh and raw ingredients in under five minutes while retaining nutritional value. The Simplicity menu offers over 30 dishes, which patients can order in advance to reduce waste. Private patients will use Compass' Esteem system.
The agreement will also see the implementation of new security technology to improve patient and staff safety. Medirest will also introduce a support services portal for staff to report both job related tasks and service requests that need completing.

"Our thorough procurement process required bidders to increase pay for all staff to the London Living Wage as a minimum, implement the National Standards of Cleanliness 2021 in full, provide a patient and retail catering service in line with the new national standards for healthcare food and drink and to make measurable social value commitments."
