Aramark appoints Chef Direct as UK food service distribution partner
Contract caterer Aramark has appointed Chef Direct, a division of the Booker Group, as its new food service distribution partner in the UK.
The new deal, which commences this week, aims to give Aramark's clients a reliable delivery service while at the same time increasing efficiencies and reducing the caterer's carbon footprint.
Chef Direct was appointed following a comprehensive tender process involving 13 companies. It will take over Aramark's main food and non-food distribution, with responsibility for frozen, grocery, chilled, meat, fruit and vegetables, beverages, chemicals and disposable goods.
Matthew Flood, logistics director at Aramark, said: "This is a major move. We have developed a unique, market-leading distribution model with Chef Direct which will significantly improve efficiencies and remove complexity from our supply chain.
"Not only will our clients benefit from the most dependable delivery service in our market, it is a positive environmental move, too. As multi-temperature vehicles will be used, all products can be brought to sites in one lorry or van, reducing the number of deliveries."
Evan Hooper, Aramark buying director, added: "The new model offers the ability to leverage the scale of the Booker Group, with the buying expertise of Aramark. This will result in delivering the best value goods which are the right fit for our diverse client base.
"The locations we will operate from ensure we have the flexibility to offer regional products on a national scale, without compromising our commercial offer."
