Springboard seeks volunteers for Nepal trek
Volunteers are being sought for Springboard's 2017 trek in Nepal and community challenge to join chefs Chantelle Nicholson and Lisa Allen in fundraising for the charity.
Allen, executive head chef at Northcote, Langho, Lancashire, and Nicholson, chef-patron of Tredwell's, London, decided to get involved after cooking at a recent fundraising dinner to support the Nepal school where the Springboard trek of 2014 trek undertook voluntary work.
The 2017 Nepal trek will take place from 9-21 March, with a five-day trek in the Himalayas followed by a three-day community project to rectify the earthquake damage at the Manjushree Community School. There are 36 places available, 16 of which have already been filled.
The charity has set a fundraising target of £135,000, with all funds going towards Springboard's range of programmes and activities which help young people and unemployed adults find work in the UK hospitality, leisure and tourism industry.
Anne Pierce, chief executive officer of the Springboard Charity, said: "Springboard's annual treks and community projects are a much valued experience for those who take up the challenge. Those involved are able to challenge themselves mentally and physically, meet like-minded individuals from the industry, and give back to others less fortunate than themselves. The annual trek is an important source of funds for Springboard and has a major impact of people's lives."
