Anti-crime website launched for hotels nationwide
Hotels across the UK are being invited to sign up to a new anti-crime website launched by the Metroplitan Police.
Despite being known as London Hotelwatch, the resource - which has been set up in conjunction with Facewatch, the national low-level crime reporting service for businesses - is available for all hotels nationwide to tap into.
London Hotelwatch provides hotel operators with a direct crime reporting link to Westminster's hotel liaison police team, as well as acting as a means of sharing security information between hotel managers.
Sergeant Adrian Haley, of the Westminster Borough Hotel Liaison and Olympic Operational Planning team, said: "The website is aimed not just at five-star luxury properties, but all hoteliers so that everyone has a chance to share information. You can never have too much intelligence."
The Institute of Hospitality(IOH), the industry's professional body, is encouraging all hotel managers to sign up to London Hotelwatch. Philippe Rossiter FIH, chief executive of IOH, said "If your hotel is outside London, do not be put off by the name because its use is open to all. In fact, the goal is for hoteliers across the UK to use the website via a series of regional intranets. The democratic nature of the facility means that the greater the number of users, the more useful the information-sharing device becomes."
Facewatch and Hotelwatch services are secure, comply fully with data protection law and have been approved by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).
