Crowne Plaza London – St James to become a Taj hotel
Owned since the 1980s by Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces - part of the Indian conglomerate Tata - the 340-bedroom hotel in Buckingham Gate, Victoria, will become known at the St James' Court, A Taj Hotel. Its adjacent sister property, 51 Buckingham Gate, which features 86 suites, is also to be rebadged as the Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences.
The hotel, which includes the Michelin-stared Quilon restaurant, has been run under the InterContinental Hotels Group's Crowne Plaza brand for nearly 20 years. Together with 51 Buckingham Gate, the two properties are located in seven Victorian townhouses.
Established in 1901, the Taj Group owns and operates 102 hotels, resorts and palaces in 62 locations across India and 17 hotels outside the Indian sub-continent.
Tata's interests in the UK include the Bombay Brasserie, Jaguar and Land Rover.
