Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House hotel appoints John Shevlin as general manager

Hotel operator Mercure has appointed John Shevlin to the post of general manager at the four-star Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa. Shevlin has 22 years' experience at venues including the training and conference centre at RBS world headquarters in Edinburgh and the Galgorm Resort & Spa in Northern Ireland.

He will be overseeing a refurbishment programme at the 109-bedroom hotel over the coming months. The hotel, designed around an original 19th-century mansion house, is set in 30 acres of countryside three miles from Aberdeen city centre and is a popular local wedding and events venue.

The first area to be refurbished will be the hotel's 565sq m ballroom. "It's an exciting time for the hotel," Shevlin said. "There is significant investment planned for the refurbishment of bedrooms and function rooms, including the ballroom, which is the largest of its kind in the area. There are also a number of new staff appointments at the hotel, and I look forward to working with the team to drive forward the continuous delivery of excellent service for our business and leisure customers."
