Salcombe hotel shell to become boutique hotel
An English businessman based in Switzerland is converting the shell of a Salcombe hotel into a 14-bedroom boutique property.
He has acquired the former three-star South Sands Hotel (which included three letting apartments) and the five residential Tennyson Apartments within the hotel complex.
The hotel has been closed for the past five years. The new owner intends to upgrade the residential apartments, reinstate the swimming pool, and convert the South Sands hotel into a boutique venue with a beach frontage overlooking Salcombe Estuary.
It is expected to reopen next summer under the management of local businessman Andrew Turner.
The Plymouth office of Colliers Robert Barry sold the freehold for an undisclosed price in a multi-million pound deal on behalf of the receiver, Geoffrey Martin & Co.
