Sandman to open £20m Aberdeen hotel

Canadian hotel company the Sandman Hotel Group is set to open a new 220-room hotel in Aberdeen - its third in the UK.

The company has confirmed that it is developing a former Robert Gordon University building with 11,000 sq ft of restaurant space and 6,000 sq ft of conference and banqueting space, as well as a large rooftop gym.

It will be located on St Andrews Street and will fly the Sandman Signature brand.

The hotel is expected to open its doors in late 2016, with around £20m being spent on its development.

Sandman opened its first UK site - the 175-bedroom Sandman Signature - in Newcastle in 2011.

The four-star hotel in the former Scottish and Newcastle brewery site at Gallowgate incorporates an on-site pub, the Shark Club Gastro Lounge, and a number of self-catering suites.

The group also has a hotel at London Gatwick.
