Pret calls time on Veggie stores

Pret A Manger will convert its final Veggie Pret outlets to standard stores, stating "every Pret is a Veggie Pret".

The three remaining Veggie Prets – two in London and one in Manchester – will be converted to original Pret A Mangers by the end of February.

The sandwich chain opened its first Veggie Pret in Soho on Broadwick Street in 2016 to show it was "serious about providing veggie and vegan options", this was followed by further sites in Exmouth Market and Great Eastern Street and grew to 10 sites, mostly in London. A site in Manchester opened in 2018.

At one point the chain had planned to convert 94 of its Eat outlets it acquired back in 2019, but this plan never materialised and Pret began reining back on its veggie brand in 2022.

The final two London sites – on Broadwick Street and Great Eastern Street – will change its branding on 19 February, while the Veggie Pret in Deansgate, Manchester, will convert on the 26 February.

"Every Pret shop is a Veggie Pret shop," said Katherine Bagshawe, UK food and coffee director at Pret A Manger, noting how a third of all main meal sales at the chain were veggie or vegan and new non-meat products being introduced to the menu "all the time".

"Our original Meatless Meatball Hot Wrap was born in Veggie Pret, yet it became a top five bestseller across the whole of Pret within its first week of launching, showing us how customers across all our shops want amazing veggie food."
