Essex restaurant Contented Sole receives accolade

The Contented Sole in Burnham-on-Crouch has been named as the Best Small Restaurant in Essex, at the Essex Food & Drink Awards 2010.

The restaurant, approaching its 50th anniversary, has a menu featuring French and English cuisine and was praised by the judging panel for its "ambience, service, menu, creativity, presentation, wine list, staff knowledge, use of local, seasonal produce and value for money".

Chef-patron Andy Hemingway, who trained under Michel Roux and Antony Worrall-Thompson, said: "This has been a great honour. We've worked incredibly hard to bring the restaurant to this standard."

The Swan at Felsted was named Best Gastropub and Best Large Restaurant went to Masons in Brentwood.
