First of planned group of Malaysian restaurants opens in Westfield
A new Malaysian restaurant has opened at Westfield London as the first of a planned group.
Penang is a 128-seat restaurant set over two floors, with a balcony and a terrace, offering a menu incorporating modern takes on Malaysian classics alongside new dishes, all designed to share.
The Westfield site is the first restaurant for Penang, with two further locations planned to open next year.
The brand takes its name from the coastal state of Penang in Malaysia, known as the country's food capital and famous for its street food.
Commenting on the launch Penang communications director, Louise Mackintosh said: "Malaysian cuisine is varied and sensational but relatively unknown in the UK - there are fewer than 70 Malaysian restaurants across the whole country, compared to over 1000 Thai restaurants within the M25 alone. By creating a modern, fun brand like Penang our aim is to present these incredible flavours to a new audience."
