Soren Jessen's Borealis restaurant closes after a year of operation

Soren Jessen's restaurant Borealis in London's Borough High Street has closed after a year of operation.

The Nordic restaurant was launched in August 2018 as the third venture from Jessen (pictured), who also oversees two sites in the City of London, Ekte Nordic Kitchen in the Bloomberg Arcade and 1 Lombard Street.

However it will now cease to operate in Borough's Fora, a co-working space due to play host to Fergus Henderson's St John Bakery in September.

Borealis' cafe offering, which adjoined the restaurant, remains open as the co-working firm explores a new, informal concept for the vacant space.

Jessen said: "The brief from Fora in 2018 was to design and deliver a Nordic restaurant and café for their co-working space in Borough. The café has been very popular with the residents and Fora has decided to run the café themselves, but they are reconsidering the focus of the restaurant operation. We are not involved with the plans."

In a statement a spokeswoman for Fora said: "Whilst the café has been incredibly popular with Fora Residents and Borough locals, Fora has decided to provide a more informal restaurant offering, so we will be closing the restaurant in order to develop a concept that addresses both Fora Residents' and the wider community's all-day food desires."
