The Sportsman and Mountain take top gongs at the Good Food Guide awards

Mountain in London walked away with Best New Restaurant while the Sportsman in Kent took the Restaurant of the Year award at the Good Food Guide awards last night.

The event at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London saw the guidebook honour the best restaurants in the UK.

This year's Restaurant of the Year was award to the Sportsman in Seasalter, Kent, which was named by the guide in a list of ‘world class' restaurants alongside L'Enclume in Cumbria, Moor Hall in Lancashire and Ynyshir in mid-Wales.

Tomos Parry's latest venture, Mountain in London's Soho was awarded Best New Restaurant, while the Chef to Watch was awarded to James Carn, head chef of Lark in Suffolk.

Meanwhile, Helmsley and the Howardian Hills in North Yorkshire was named the Most Exciting Food Destination.

Good Food Guide editor, Elizabeth Carter, said: "It's a new era for the Good Food Guide with a new look and a revamped rating system, but the Guide's deep-rooted values remain exactly the same.

"There's always been a lot of excitement surrounding our awards, and this year we've overhauled them to better reflect the fast-paced changes in Britain's dining out scene.

"I'm incredibly proud of the entire awards list as every restaurant on it, not just the winners, sets the standard by which all others should be measured."

The Good Food Guide was first published in 1951 and has since been reviewing the best restaurants across the UK, offering longform reviews from the team's 30 anonymous inspectors.
