Brakes announces finalists of the 2012-13 student chef team

Seven talented college teams have been selected to progress to the final of the Brakes Student Chef Team Challenge 2012/13 run in association with the Craft Guild of Chefs.

Held at ScotHot at the SECC Glasgow on 6 March 2013, this year's challenge invited teams to create a three-course menu inspired by the theme Going Global with World Cuisine in less than two hours.

A panel of expert judges, including Mark Irish, head of Brakes Development Chefs and Christopher Basten, vice-chairman of the Craft Guild of Chefs, selected the best teams to cook-off in the grand final.

The regional winners were City of Glasgow College, Shrewsbury College, East Kent College, Westminster Kingsway College, Herefordshire College of Technology and The Sheffield City College along with the best runner up, South East Regional College.

Teams will now progress to the final, where they will compete in a live cook off. The winning team will receive a five-day work experience week hosted by competition judge Christopher Basten, a six-piece Global knife set each, the winners plaque, commemorative award plate, medals and certificates.
