The fortnight, which runs from 17 September to 2 October, was created in 2002 to help producers, suppliers, growers and caterers to promote local and regional produce.

"It's about helping our customers to promote the British credentials of their menus and to highlight what they're doing for British Food Fortnight to their customers," said Brakes Group marketing director James Armitage, who added that interest in British food was "stronger than it's ever been"..

The armoury of free resources, information and advice can be found on a [dedicated area of the Brakes website.

It includes template marketing and promotional materials (such as posters and menus), a free media toolkit of sample press releases and photo call forms to promote events to the local media, recipe ideas for classic British dishes, a shopping list of British ingredients, and a checklist to help outlets prepare for the event.
