Carlsberg expands craft beer and cider range

Carlsberg is to distribute an extended range of craft beers and ciders, with a focus on British products, in recognition of a growing appetite for artisan ale.

It has added 14 draught beers, 17 new packaged beers and an extended seasonal range to its offer, including Chapel Down's Curious Brew and Herefordshire craft cider Bad Apple.

The range will also include new international beers such as American pale ale Shed Head from the Backyard Brewery in Sweden, Hitachino Nest White Ale from the Hitachino brewery in Japan and Grimbergen Blonde from Belgium.

Carlsberg has also produced the Crafted Handbook, to provide operators with information on each brand along with tasting notes and positioning tips.

Paul Waller, Carlsberg director of third party brands, said: "This year we have a balanced range from the US and Europe and greater emphasis on the UK, recognising the quality of innovation from home-grown brands and products. Importantly, we monitor trends and put new beers and ciders through a rigorous taste test before adding them to the portfolio.

"The handbook is an accessible, entertaining and educational tool, suitable for publicans who want to venture into craft beer for the first time, as much as it is for aficionados looking for inspiration on the latest innovations from the category."
