Traditional British fruit cake wins Great Taste Award for Just Desserts

Family-run Shipley baker and pâtissier Just Desserts has won a Great Taste Award for its traditional British favourite fruit cake.

The bakery, which produces hand-made desserts for food service, tried a number of recipes before it was happy with the quality, texture and taste combination of mixed fruit and classic strong pale ale.

James O'Dwyer, managing director of Just Desserts, said: "To win a Great Taste Award is to speciality food what Michelin is to fine dining and is a proven fine-food Oscar. We are absolutely delighted to have been given this accolade for our fruit cake and I'm so proud of the team".

The 2012 Great Taste Awards attracted a record number of entries. In total, more than 8,800 food and drink products from more than 2,500 companies were blind-tasted, tested and discussed by 350-plus judges, comprising fine-food retailers, food writers, chefs, restaurant critics and industry experts.
