What was your first job?

I worked in a potato factory close to where I grew up in Cambridgeshire. My job was to grade the potatoes, pack them and load on to pallets. I've always had an eye for a good potato!

What do you do to relax?

I like to grow a lot of my own veg and I really love pottering about looking after my plants. However, my idea of truly relaxing is snuggled up on the sofa with my girls watching a film

Which is your favourite restaurant?

So many to choose from, but it must be the Ledbury – probably a cliché but it's true. I was fortunate enough to book a table when it had just reopened and it was incredible, I felt it was a three-star experience from day one. Brett [Graham], Tom [Spenceley] Jack [Settle] and the team have created something magical

What's your favourite hotel?

This is an easy one – Gleneagles. I love it there! Amazing people, excellent customer service, outstanding food. I think it's the best of Scottish hospitality

What is your favourite drink?

Ooh… a large gin (Monkey 47 or Downpour) with splash of tonic, slice of fresh orange and lots and lots of ice

What is your favourite cuisine?

I love Indian, and if I'm really pushing the boat out I'll order an Aktar at Home – delicious!

Which ingredient do you hate the most?

I can't stomach liver unless it's in parfaits or similar. On its own, no ta

What flavour combinations do you detest?

Lime in gin – it kills the taste

What do you always carry with you?

My car keys

How would you describe your desk?

Meticulously organised

Cast away on a desert island, what luxury would you take?

Cadbury's Mini Eggs, my guilty secret

What daily newspaper/website do you read?

The Caterer of course!

If not yourself, who would you rather have been?

Brian Cox (the scientist, not the actor)

What irritates you most about the industry?

VAT!
