Grosvenor Victoria to be rebranded as a Guoman hotel
The Grosvenor Victoria is to be upgraded from a Thistle to a Guoman hotel.
Situated next to London's Victoria Station, the four-star, 357-bedroom property will become the fifth hotel in the Guoman collection, the luxury brand of Guoman Hotels Management, which also operates Thistle. It will join four other Guoman hotels in London - the Charing Cross, the Cumberland, the Royal Horseguards and the Tower.
The rebranding will take place following a year-long refurbishment, which starts in August. Central to the improvements will be the replacement of the existing Chez Gerard outlet with a fine-dining Chinese restaurant.
"A fantastic food and beverage offering will be a key element of the new-look Grosvenor Victoria," said Heiko Figge, managing director of Guoman Hotels and Thistle Hotels.
"We will be recruiting all the chefs for the new restaurant from Hong Kong which will be run as a joint venture and we are aiming for a standard that is found in some of Hong Kong's finest establishments. The intention is to create a very special guest experience."
The hotel will also offer a new brasserie, bar and guest lounges.
The repositioning of the Grosvenor Victoria is part of the company's plans to expand the Guoman brand in London, as well as in key cities throughout the UK such as Edinburgh, Manchester and Liverpool. "We are actively looking for properties which are in a good, city-centre locations," Figge said.
Guoman will be opening its first overseas hotel this week in Shanghai, followed by a second in Beijing later this year. Thistle Hotels, which operates 34 hotels in the UK, expanded into the international market for the first time in 2009 with the opening of two properties in Malaysia.
Figge confirmed that the company would be looking at further expansion in Asia of both the Guoman and Thistle brands, particularly in China and India.
