Horts named Bristol pub of the year
Horts pub in Bristol has been named Pub of the Year by the Bristol Tourist office.
Part of Young's pub company, the pub underwent a £300,000 refurbishment programme in 2013 which included the addition of a state-of-the-art, 26-seat cinema called the Director's Cut.
The award was presented to pub manager Richard Fairchild (pictured) at a ceremony organised by Destination Bristol, the body that represents and promotes tourism in the region.
Horts will now represent Bristol in the Visit England Excellence awards which will take place in May.
Fairchild said: "To be recognised as being the best pub in Bristol so soon after the refurbishment is a great testimony to everyone who was involved in the project.
"The inclusion of the Director's Cut cinema has provided a completely new dimension to our offering and has fast developed its own niche on the Bristol film scene. The BBC's wildlife programme, Wild Brazil was premiered here and demonstrates the sound and picture quality of the venue.
"We've also improved the food offering with a new menu of grazing plates, sharing boards and pub classics. These are the perfect accompaniment for the pub's renowned selection of cask beer, real ale and fine wine.
"We'll now look forward to welcoming customers, old and new, to enjoy all that Horts and the Director's Cut has to offer."
Steve Gallagher from Young's added: "I'd like to congratulate Richard and his team for winning this prestigious award. To be recognised by those from the hospitality, leisure and tourist sector is a great accolade.
"The new cinema has been a fantastic addition to the venue and has given it a new lease of life. We have also seen an increase in food sales and private bookings and we wish Richard and his team well for the future."
