Report predicts steady rise in food spending

THE money people spend on food in restaurants, cafés, hotels and take-aways will increase by almost 20% in the next 20 years, says a new report.

Catering researcher Foodservice Intelligence claims in its report Foodservice Forecasts 2000 that half of all money spent on food will be eaten out of the home by 2020. This year the figure is just under a third.

A spokesman for Foodservice Intelligence said: "We expect it [out-of-home food spend] to increase by between 0.5% and 1% per year over the next 20 years."
