Craig Jackson appointed general manager at Northcote

Acorn Award winner Craig Jackson has been promoted from hotel manager to general manager at Northcote, the four-red-AA star, 26-bedroom hotel in Langho, Lancashire, which has undergone a £7m expansion and refurbishment over the past three years.

Jackson, 27, joined Ribble Valley Inns as a part-time waiter at the Three Fishes pub. On leaving school at 18, he gave up a university place in favour of a four-year management training scheme with Ribble Valley Inns. The programme included the completion of a foundation degree in hospitality and licensed retail management from Lancaster University.

After a spell in management roles with Ribble Valley Inns, Jackson took a year away from Lancashire working for LOCOG, arranging accommodation for the British swimming team during the London 2012 Olympics. He returned to Northcote at the end of 2012 as guest relations manager, later being appointed hotel manager and now general manager.

Craig Bancroft, joint managing director with Nigel Haworth at Northcote, said Jackson was dedicated to the vision and values that he and Haworth share.

"He has excelled in his development of knowledge, qualifications and without doubt his passion for hospitality and looking after the Northcote guests along with supporting each member of the team," explained Bancroft.

In January Jackson completed the Master Innholders Aspiring Leaders course and five months later went on to win one of this year's Acorn Awards, presented by The Caterer, which celebrates the achievements of 30 of the brightest prospects in the hospitality industry under the age of 30.
