St Andrews hotel the Dunvegan for sale

The well-known St Andrews golf hotel, the Dunvegan, is up for sale for £3m.

Popular with American tourists, the hotel has been owned for the past 22 years by Texan Jack Wolloughby and his Scottish wife Sheena.

The hotel, which is just over 100m from the Old Course, has played host to actors such as Clint Eastwood and Sean Connery, as well as former president George W Bush and the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong.

It is now on sale for £3m after the owners decided to retire.

"We've had the time of our lives running the hotel and have loved meeting and hosting so many golfers, golfing celebrities and our true core customers, the not so famous golfing visitors, alike," Sheena said.

Property agent Linda Black of Pagan Osborne added: "This is a once in a generation opportunity to live the golfing dream at the heart of the sport's birthplace."
