Smiths of Smithfield announces new London site

Smiths of Smithfield has announced the launch of a new restaurant and bar on London's Cannon Street next month, the company's first new opening in three years.

Opening on 21 November and designed by the Manser Practice, the venue will offer the same style of dining as the flagship bar and restaurant founded in 2000 by MasterChef judge John Torode opposite London's Smithfield meat market. Smiths of Smithfield is now owned by Korado, which in turn is owned by Cyprus-based Longlac Holdings.

Aiming to deliver simple food made from locally sourced ingredients, the new Smiths of Smithfield will provide a relaxed atmosphere. All meat will be ethically produced by UK farmers and butchered in-house.

The Cannon Street kitchen will be headed by Henry Omereye with a menu of "robust, but sophisticated" food. Playful interpretations on classic dishes on offer will include grilled halibut with lobster mash, spinach and parsley sauce, corn-fed chicken, and Smiths' signature range of rare breed steaks from award-winning suppliers.

The food will be complemented by a comprehensive wine list by David Gleave of Liberty Wines, and the bar will feature a selected range of craft beers from local and international brewers.

Cat Stuijt, sales and marketing manager at Smiths of Smithfield, said: "We are incredibly excited about this new venture, in the heart of the city in an area which is crying out for sophisticated dining and drinking in a sea of grab-and-go outlets. The new restaurant has been specifically designed to adapt to both the needs of the local business community looking for a smart but informal setting and members of the public looking for a great food and drink experience."
