Commitment to sustainability – food procurement team, allmanhall is taking real action

allmanhall, the independent food procurement specialist, have joined the United Nations Global Compact Initiative – a voluntary leadership platform for the development, implementation and disclosure of all responsible business practices.

With this announcement, allmanhall joins thousands of other leading companies across the world committed to taking responsible action to create the world we all want.

Says Mike Meek, procurement and sustainability director at allmanhall: "We recognise that our current daily decision making is a means to determine the type of future that we want to create and as a food procurement organisation this extends to what we choose to eat. Joining the UN Global Compact and embedding its principles demonstrates our commitment to bringing about a fairer, more prosperous and sustainable future and enhances our goals of using our company's reach to collaborate, innovate and to bring about healthier and sustainable outcomes within our community network".

The UN Global Compact is a call to organisations everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principals in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of UN goals and issues embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 15,000 companies and 3,800 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries.

allmanhall's sustainability manager Theo Kuehn adds: "we're delighted to have formally committed to the United Nations Global Compact. The compact is a fantastic scheme in the adoption of universal best practice in sustainability and corporate responsibility. In this decade where action is imperative for humanity's future, a tool that allows businesses to benchmark themselves and work towards clear targets is invaluable. We encourage you to visit our participant profile on the UN Global Compact website and learn more about our latest work."

allmanhall are focussed on responsible and sustainable actions, throughout the food supply chain. From how they're managing and working with suppliers to how they're supporting their clients to help make transformative changes to the food they offer and the choices they make, allmanhall are taking real action.

For example, allmanhall have been in partnership with the award-winning carbon impact assessment platform, Foodsteps since 2021-22. Together, they're helping to make sustainability data both transparent and accessible. By uploading recipes, the environmental impact of menus is made clear. A rating tool and labels show the carbon footprint and posters and stamps help communication. Help is on hand to create hero menus based on both nutritional and sustainability analysis. The goal? To support inhouse education catering teams to target net zero through carbon impact assessments of their menus and the choices made by their diners. allmanhall don't tell catering clients what they can and can't order, but actively provide better access to information to help more sustainable decisions to be made by them, directly and autonomously. The same goes for helping foodservice operations communicate to their diners to further enable informed and more sustainable decisions about food.
