JJ Foodservice to introduce real-time delivery notifications

Wholesaler JJ Foodservice is set to introduce an Amazon-style notification system which will update customers on arrival times based on real-time data.

The company has said the system is the first of its kind to be used in the UK foodservice sector and will mark a dramatic improvement in convenience for caterers, who had previously been given a four-hour delivery window.

Head of operations Sedat Kaan Hendekli, said: "Customers are sent an email notification when their order is first dispatched and then again when the driver is nearby. We calculate positioning with local traffic conditions to give an estimated arrival time.

Already this year, JJ's has introduced paperless technology at its warehouses and invested in telematics to optimise driver journeys.
