NUT pleges teachers' support for LACA

National Union of Teachers (NUT) has pledged to work more closely with the Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA) on improving school meals.

Speaking at LACA's annual conference last week, the NUT's general secretary Steve Sinnott said that teachers needed to offer their full co-operation with caterers in the push for better school food.

His words were echoed by LACA's new chairman Kevin MacKay, who said he would make a commitment to work closely with the NUT for the first time in its history.

Sinnott also repeated his calls for government spending on school meals to rise to £1 per head.
