Former Guoman and Thistle boss Heiko Figge moves to Moorfield Group
Heiko Figge, former managing director of Guoman & Thistle Hotels, has joined private-equity company Moorfield Group to head up and grow its hospitality portfolio.
Figge is also responsible for a 407-bunk new hostel concept, Safestay, at London's Elephant & Castle.
Moorfield's other hospitality interests include 43 hotels across the UK leased to Shearings, the coach holiday operator that targets the over-55s market.
"I've been brought in to provide operational guidance to how the hotel business works," he said. "Moorfield very much enjoys being involved in the hospitality sector and intends to help each brand it is involved with reach its full potential."
Educated and trained in Bonn, Germany, Figge managed Paramount Hotels as chief operating officer before joining Guoman and Thistle four years ago. He was also previously operations director of the regional estate at Marriott Hotels.
Although he has now stepped aside from hotel operations, Figge said that he fully intended to remain actively involved in the industry as a fellow of the Institute of Hospitality and a board director of the British Hospitality Association and Springboard UK.
â- Anna-Marie Dowling, former general manager of the Royal Horseguards, London, a Guoman hotel, has been appointed general manager of the 605-bedroom Sofitel London Heathrow.
