Interns ready to graduate from Know Hospitality Academy
The first intake of students from the Know Hospitality Academy in Liverpool will be completing their course next month.
Six young people began their 10-week training programme at the Richmond hotel where they were taught all aspects of hospitality.
A graduation ceremony will be held at the hotel on 8 October to celebrate the achievements of the interns.
The Richmond, a Grade II-listed property on Hatton Garden, and Know Hospitality launched the training academy earlier this year to encourage 16 to 18-year-olds to join the hospitality industry.
Know Hospitality works in partnership with training provider Kaplan Skills and Employment to manager and deliver the internships.
The programme is aimed at young people who are interested in starting a career within Liverpool city region's hospitality sector.
The visitor economy for the city region is worth £3.8b and supports more than 49,000 jobs, many of which are in hospitality.
Students spent the first two weeks of the course in the classroom studying topics such as food hygiene, communication and mock interviews. The students then moved on to work in various departments across the hotel including reception, housekeeping, kitchen, food and beverage, and sales.
Steven Hesketh, managing director of the Richmond hotel, said: "It's been a fantastic start for the Know Hospitality Academy with a small but extremely dedicated group of young people, who are enthusiastic and excited about starting their careers in an ever-growing sector here in Liverpool city region.
"Hospitality is a career which can take people all over the world and starting that journey in Liverpool, which attracts millions of overseas visitors every year, is the perfect fit."
He added: "Seeing our first group of interns graduate in October will be a very proud moment for everyone involved in the programme."
The next interns are scheduled to start on 28 September.
