Paul Shanahan appointed general manager at Gidleigh Park

Paul Shanahan, currently operations manager at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, Oxfordshire, has been appointed general manager of Gidleigh Park in Chagford, Devon.

He will take on his new role on 23 November, replacing Federico Aresti who has stepped down from the 24-bedroom property, owned by Andrew Brownsword Hotels, for personal reasons. Aresti joined Gidleigh Park in April 2016 after spending six years as hotel manager at nearby Bovey Castle.

It will be the first general manager role for Shanahan, who has worked in the hospitality industry for 22 years and spent the past five years at Le Manoir under Raymond Blanc. He previously worked for Blanc as restaurant manager at the Diamond Club, Arsenal's private members' club where Blanc is chef director; as assistant food and beverage director at Syon Park, west London; and as restaurant manager at L'Ortolan in Shinfield, Berkshire.

Shanahan said he was delighted to join Gidleigh Park, where the restaurant held two Michelin stars and five AA rosettes under former head chef Michael Caines, who was replaced earlier this year by Michael Wignall. "I'm excited by the challenges and opportunities ahead to present Gidleigh Park to both new and existing clients," he explained.

"It has been a true honour to work with Raymond Blanc and all the team here at Belmond Le Manoir. It's always the little details that count and make the experience so much more wonderful and that's something I will certainly take away with me.

Gidleigh Park now offers an opportunity for an exciting new chapter, which I'm delighted to embark upon".
