The Athenaeum hotel wins top afternoon tea award for London
The Athenaeum hotel has been named as the best place to enjoy afternoon tea in the capital after scooping the Top London Afternoon Tea 2012 award.
Judges of The Tea Guild Awards said that exceptional service, great quality tea and extensive knowledge of the staff had earned the five-star, 156-bedroom hotel the top prize.
Irene Gorman, head of the Tea Guild, explained that taking tea in the Garden Room at the Athenaeum was a demonstration of exactly how special afternoon tea has become. "The elegant surroundings make afternoon tea a memorable occasion and an experience to cherish, aided by delightfully friendly, efficient and knowledgeable staff, and with delicious food and teas faultlessly presented," she said
Food and beverage manager at the Athenaeum, Ronny Wilbald, said the hotel was delighted and honoured to receive the award. "All the staff at the hotel are passionate about creating a memorable guest experience and when it comes to serving the perfect afternoon tea, we strive to get every detail just right."
The Tea Guild, which has been running the awards for 27 years, also awarded 21 Awards of Excellence for outstanding quality and consistently high standards in tea service to the following establishments: Brown's hotel; Claridge's; Four Seasons Hotel Park Lane; Grosvenor House Park Room & Library; Sofitel London St James; the Capital Hotel, the Chesterfield; the Connaught; the Dorchester; the Goring; the InterContinental Park Lane; the Lanesborough; the Langham; the Milestone; the Hyatt Regency London The Churchill; the Montague on The Gardens; the Royal Garden Hotel; the Royal Horseguards hotel; the Savoy; the Ritz and the Wolseley.
