Phil Howard and Rebecca Mascarenhas to launch second restaurant together
Two-Michelin-starred chef Philip Howard is to launch a second restaurant with restaurateur Rebecca Mascarenhas called Sonny's Kitchen on the site of Sonny's Restaurant in Barnes, south west London.
The new restaurant follows in the footsteps of the hugely successful Kitchen W8, which the pair opened in 2010 and which gained a Michelin star less than a year after opening.
Set to open in mid-May, Sonny's Kitchen will continue the ‘neighbourhood and beyond' style of operation of Sonny's, which Mascarenhas has run for more than 25 years. Design LSM will develop a new restaurant interior.
Howard will direct all aspects of the kitchen and menus, which will be family friendly and very informal, featuring comfort dishes. The restaurant will be open daily for lunch and dinner, as well as brunch on weekends.
Mascarenhas will concentrate on the business and operational side of the restaurant. She said: "We began our professional journey together with Kitchen W8 and quickly realised that we complement each other's skills. Phil is an undisputed talent in the kitchen, and, after nearly 30 years in the business, I bring strong business acumen to the table."
2011 independent restaurateur Catey winner Howard remains partner and head chef of the two-Michelin-starred Square in Mayfair as well as a partner of the two-star Ledbury in Notting Hill. Mascarenhas also owns Cantinetta, an Italian restaurant in Putney, south west London.
