Three more restaurants in Scotland have won a Michelin star, taking the country's total to 16.
The new additions are
Meanwhile Ballachulish House in Fort William and Lochaber in the Highlands lost its Michelin star.
21212's chef Paul Kitching previously won a Michelin star at his restaurant Juniper Greater Manchester. He left Juniper with partner Katie O'Brien in 2008 to start up the new venture in Edinburgh
Katie O'Brien commented: "It's a relief really to get a star back. There was a bit of pressure because we'd had one before, but you can't take it for granted that you'll get it back. We've got tough competition in Edinburgh, so it's nice to be able to say we're as good as everyone else." The 28-seat restaurant-with-rooms is the fifth restaurant in Edinburgh to achieve a one-Michelin-star accolade.
Chef, food columnist and owner of the Peat Inn Geoffrey Smeddle was previously head chef at étain, Sir Terence Conran's first destination restaurant outside London, where he won the AA Restaurant Guide Restaurant of the Year 2006.
Smeddle, who runs the Peat Inn with his wife Katherine, was "absolutely thrilled" to have won a star. "Katherine and I were on holiday when we received the news, which first came as a huge shock! After that, once it had sunk in I was thrilled and it's going to make returning to work really exciting," he said.
"We have a fantastic team, who are extremely dedicated and professional and between us all we have tried really hard to maintain a great level of consistency."
Brazilian head chef Marcello Tully joined Kinloch Lodge in 2008 after chef and food writer Claire Macdonald, who has spent 35 years at the helm of the restaurant, invited him to give it a new look and framework. Tully spent seven years training with the Roux brothers at Le Gavroche.
Tully said: "We're delighted to have been awarded a Michelin star, it is the ultimate accolade for any chef. We've worked very hard together as a team in the three years since I've joined to develop an exciting, imaginative and diverse menu that, above all, celebrates the exceptional quality of the local produce we have on our doorstep. This is a wonderful recognition of all our efforts and builds on Kinloch's renowned and celebrated culinary heritage. In particular I would like to thank my superb sous chef, Andrew Maclugash".
Claire Macdonald commented: "Michelin's star is a testament to the fantastic work being carried out by Marcello and his team at Kinloch Lodge. They work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure every guest's stay is truly memorable, so to be given this recognition by Michelin is heart warming and truly wonderful."
Scotland's only restaurant with two stars remains Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles in Auchterarder, Perth & Kinross.
