Waitrose acquires The Good Food Guide

The Good Food Guide has been bought for an undisclosed sum by Waitrose from the consumer company Which?

The 63-year-old annual publication will join Waitrose's expanding portfolio of foodie publications which include weekly newspaper Waitrose Weekend and monthly magazine Waitrose Kitchen. The retailer also operates Waitrose TV, via its website Waitrose.com, which offers cookery and gardening advice.

The Good Food Guide website is included in the acquisition.

Elizabeth Carter, consultant editor of the guide, said: "The Good Food Guide will continue to maintain its reputation as the country's foremost independent restaurant guide.

"We will be offering the same high calibre, knowledgeable restaurant reviews which have helped the guide become the respected publication it is today. Joining the Waitrose family marks a new chapter in its prestigious history.'

Waitrose recently worked with The Good Food Guide when it sponsored a competition to find a restaurant inspector.

Copies of The Good Food Guide 2014, due to be published next month, will be sold in Waitrose as well as other retail outlets.
