Cream Supplies takes on UK's first organic seaweeds
Cream Supplies is now stocking a premium line of seaweeds from Donegal-based AlgAran ](http://www.seaweedproducts.ie/)that are the only organic certified seaweeds in the UK and Ireland.
The AlgAran algae are sustainably hand-harvested from clean waters in the wild where they are only cut to a certain length to encourage re-growth. After quality testing, they are air-dried at low temperatures to preserve both texture and nutrients.
Cream Supplies suggests jazzing up their taste profiles by rehydrating in mirin or rice wine vinegar before cooking.
Alongside seasonal varieties, the year-round AlgAran line includes:
â- Irish Carragheen (Chrondus crispus) - used in Irish cooking to thicken puddings and soups, or as a hot drink
â- Dulse/Dillisk (Palmaria Palmata) - a well-known salty snack in Ireland that enhances the flavour of fish and is an ideal addition to vegetarian and vegan meals due to its high levels of vitamin B12 and iron
â- Kombu/Kelp (Laminaria digitata) - packed with energy-booster iodine, kombu is also said to neutralise bloating and gas in the the colon when cooked with beans and peas
â- Sea Spaghetti (Himanthalia elongate) - rich in iron and vitamin C, with a light sea flavour that recalls clams and cockles
Cream Supplies promises next-day delivery of the seaweeds, which it sells for £2.79 (ex-VAT) per 40g pack.
