Talkington Bates appoints Christian Sandhagen group development chef

Independent contract caterer Talkington Bates has appointed its first group development chef ahead of plans to grow the business.

Head chef Christian Sandhagen has been promoted from his role at Talkington Bates' contract at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), Hawkshead, to the newly created position.

While he will still be based at RVC and remain heavily involved in its operations, Sandhagen will assume responsibility for inspiring and motivating Talkington Bates' chef managers and chefs, originating recipe cards and creating food for sales presentations.

He will also assist with project management of high-profile events and site visits from prospective clients, as well as making menu recommendations and working alongside operations managers ensuring best practice across all sites.

Paul Bates, group managing director at Talkington Bates, said: "We have created the group development chef role as we have recognised that Christian has superb culinary skills, which has assisted us in retaining the Royal Veterinary College for a further five years, and gaining new business such as the prestigious Halcrow site. We want all our chefs to gain from Christian's ability."

Christian, a member of the company's award-winning team of chefs, said the promotion gives him the opportunity to take a greater role in determining the company's culinary strategy going forward.

"It is an exciting, new challenge and one that I am very much looking forward to tackling in the years ahead as the company continues to grow," he added.
