Marston's buys Thwaites beer division

Marston's has acquired Thwaites beer division in a £25.1m deal.

As part of the acquisition it will now supply all beer, wine, spirits and minerals to Thwaites' pub estate.

Thwaites' main beer brands are Wainwright and Lancaster Bomber. Based in the North West, the brand has 150 sales, marketing and distribution staff.

In a statement, Martson's said the transaction was expected to be complete on 17 April 2015.

Martson's chief executive Ralph Findlay said: "I am delighted to welcome our new colleagues to Marston's. We are acquiring a very high quality business with good people and brands, and with growth potential.

"The acquisition is consistent with our beer business strategy to focus on local provenance and premium brands, and provides opportunity to capitalise on the developing free trade market and increasing consumer interest in the beer category."
