Punch Taverns launches new HR toolkit to help publicans

Pub group Punch Taverns has launched a new online HR "toolkit" to help publicans manage their human resources needs via an online system.

Free for all Punch publicans and available to print on the company's Buying Club website, the new document has been developed along with management consultancy the Compass Partnership, and will offer practical advice on recruiting, inducting, developing, managing and retaining employees, as well as legal tips.

Publicans will also be able to access further legal guidance from a team of 60 lawyers, via Punch's own legal advice line, on subjects such as health and safety, trading standards, licensing, and taxation.

Commenting on the new service, Helen Willis, learning and development manager for Punch, explained that the kit would improve consistency across sites, and allow pubs to retain and train their top business talent.

She added: "We hope that this HR toolkit will make life much easier for our publicans. [They] can be confident that they are up to speed with the latest legislation and managing their team in the very best way to achieve success."

A mixture of leased and tenanted sites, Punch stretches across almost 3,000 pubs in the UK. It announced Duncan Garrood as chief executive in June, sold 158 pubs for £53.5m in August, and confirmed a partnership with fish and chips group Harry Ramsden's in November.
