Husband and wife team to open Sager + Wilde wine bar
Husband and wife team Michael and Charlotte Sager-Wilde are to open their first permanent wine bar next week.
After the success of their Sager + Wilde pop-up, which sold premium wine by the glass from a coffee shop on Old Street, London, one night a week, the pair hope to translate the concept to a permanent site in Hackney, London.
Sager + Wilde will offer up to 30 wines by the glass alongside a menu of cured meat, cheese, homemade pickles and grilled cheese sandwiches.
The former pub on Hackney Road features Edwardian parquet flooring and exposed Victorian brickwork and a 20 seat bar designed by Michael and Charlotte Sager-Wilde with a counter top built from a cast iron pavement light, strips of which will be illuminated.
Charlotte said: "Sager + Wilde is about celebrating wine, its very essence, its craft, its geography. We are passionate about wines and about bringing this craft of wine to more people, making wine approachable and experiential in a unique space in London.
"We wanted to remove premium fine wines from their restaurant context, with their high mark-ups, and offer wine by the glass with prices before unseen."
