Chef Cyrus Todiwala to front salt awareness campaign
Chef and restaurateur Cyrus Todiwala is to front this years Salt Awareness Week (10-16 March), which is urging consumers to ‘Switch the Salt'.
The campaign hopes to persuade the public to try reduced-sodium alternatives to regular salt.
Todiwala has signed up his award-winning Indian restaurant, Café Spice Namasté, to the government's Salt Reduction Pledge, and will support the campaign by speaking at a Parliamentary Reception at the House of Commons.
The 2014 Salt Awareness Week, organised by Consensus Action on Salt & Health (CASH), will also call for more consistent front-of-pack food labelling in order to help consumers to reduce their salt consumption.
CASH claims that lowering salt intake helps to lower blood pressure and thereby reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack.
Todiwala, who is a regular guest on BBC1's 'Saturday Kitchen' and co-presents his own show, 'The Incredible Spicemen', on BBC2, will speak at a Parliamentary Reception at the House of Commons on Wednesday 12 March.
