Peterborough businessman secures £10m catering contract with Nene Park Trust

Peterborough businessman Raj Regmi of Meadow Brown Restaurants has secured a new 10-year catering contract with Nene Park Trust.

The deal will see Regmi continue to run the Ferry Meadows Café and Lakeside Kitchen & Bar, which are both situated in Ferry Meadows Country Park in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

He initially started working with the trust in 2013, taking over the Ferry Meadows Café, which at the time was making a loss of around £35,000.

Regmi, who previously worked for a contract caterer in London, said: "I had to give it a try, so I went for it when for it when it came up for tender. We have managed to turn it around into a successful business and have never looked back since."

The Lakeside Kitchen & Bar came up for tender in 2014 and Regmi once again successfully secured the contract.

This year Regmi and his team have carried out redevelopment work to the venues with investment coming close to £145,000.

Regmi added: "It's been a joy working with the trust on Lakeside and Ferry Meadows Café over the past few years. It involved a lot of investment and hard work but customers have responded really positively. I'm delighted that our partnership with Nene Park Trust is continuing over the next decade and I'm really excited about expanding the visitor offer even further."

Matthew Bradbury, chief executive of Nene Park Trust, said: "We are very pleased to be continuing our partnership with Raj. Both cafés are a key part of our overall vision for the future of the park and by collaborating with our tenants we aim to provide our visitors with great experiences.

"We will be working on further developing our resources and look forward to their continued success."

The news follows recent improvements to Lakeside Kitchen & Bar with a conservatory and log burner.

Meadow Brown Restaurants and Nene Park Trust also invested in the installation of a new sheltered outdoor seating area for Ferry Meadows Café. Both venues serve hot and cold food and drink sourced from local growers.

The Ferry Meadows Café offers food such as jacket potatoes, toasties and homemade cakes, while Lakeside offers a gastro pub concept.

The Lakeside Kitchen & Bar can also be used to host events including weddings, corporate functions and private parties.

The new deal is expected to generate almost £1m per year and will run until 2026.
