En Route International sought to tackle an important yet not widely known issue, of delivering meals to flight crew and ensuring that they are not only catered for in terms of nutrition but that meals are suitably different to ensure that no two similar crew members have the possibility of falling ill.
The En Route Crew Nosh app enables airline crew members to choose and order their in-flight meal, and have it delivered straight to the plane in a personalised box. The iOS, Android and responsive web application has been designed to allow airlines to supply healthy and nutritious meal options to crew with ease.
Integrating with the airline's roster system, and providing crew members with their flight schedule in advance, the app offers a choice of food options based on the length and location of each flight. Crew are also able to order any optional extras, and pay for those not within their allocation using the app's integrated payment system. Their order is then processed, the food is packed and delivered to the crew member on board.
Crew are also prompted to rate their food, which feeds back into menu development.
As the app is ultimately designed to help airlines keep their crew happy and healthy, it also features a number of blogs regularly updated with articles about foodie experiences and popular destinations as well as health, nutrition and fitness.
Offered to airlines as a closed network solution, the app is supported with a custom-built CMS administration site that allows content, meals, notifications and messages to be uploaded and edited instantly, ensuring that each airline's food allowance policy is met.
The judges emphasised its ability to integrate with a number of back-end systems, which support the customer journey from order to payment to delivery.
