Angela Ellis appointed hotel GM by the Zetter Group
Former housekeeper Angela Ellis has been appointed as general manager across two hotels within the Zetter Group.
Ellis will be responsible for looking after the 59-bedroom Zetter hotel in London and the nearby 13-bedroom Zetter Townhouse, Clerkenwell. She replaces Ashley Ely who left the hotels at the end of last year and in July was appointed as general manager of Locke hotel, a new aparthotel brand from serviced apartment company SACO.
It will be Ellis' first general manager role, having joined the Zetter Group as head housekeeper at the Zetter hotel in 2009 before taking on the role as deputy general manager in 2015.
Ellis started her career in hospitality in 1991 as a room attendant at London's Grosvenor House hotel, where she stayed for six years before moving to the Sloane Club as assistant head housekeeper. Her first head housekeeper role was at Firmdale Hotel's Dorset Square property. She has also spent a short spell outside of London at Great Fosters in Egham, Surrey.
Michael Benyan, director, the Zetter Group, said: "We are delighted that such a significant position has been filled by our home grown talent.
"It's not often that you see someone move from housekeeping to a general manager position but we believe with the right encouragement and support, broad experience can be a great advantage. Angela works incredibly hard and we are extremely proud of her achievements"
The Zetter Group, which is owned by partners Mark Sainsbury, Michael Benyan and Jason Catifeoglou, operates the Grain Store restaurant in King's Cross, as well as three hotels in London. Earlier this month the group was announced as the operator of the hotel to be developed at the London Road Fire Station site in Manchester.
