Edgar House in Chester named world's number one small hotel
Edgar House in Chester has been named the world's number one small hotel in the 2016 TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice awards.
Now in their 14th year, the awards recognise properties based on TripAdvisor reviews for categories including top hotels, bargain, B&Bs and inns, best service, luxury and small hotels.
Mike Stephen, co-owner of Edgar House said: "To be named the number one small hotel in the world is an incredible honour, and we can't find the words to say how thrilled and humbled we are. We'd like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all of our team, and of course to the wonderful hotel and restaurant guests for supporting and helping us win this amazing award."
Other high-performing small UK hotels include the Old Rectory in Devon, which placed seventh in the world, third in Europe and second in the UK and Muckrach Country House in Scotland, which ranked 11th in Europe and third in the UK.
Maxwell's Piece B&B in Moreton-in-Marsh was named the second-best rated B&B in the world, while the Elm Tree hotel in Llandudno was rated the second-best bargain hotel in the world.
The UK winner of the top hotels category was Raymond Blanc's Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons in Oxfordshire, which also came third in Europe and sixth in the world.
James Kay, a spokesperson for TripAdvisor, said: "These awards are based on guest feedback gathered throughout the year, so what sets the winners apart is not just a high standard of service and accommodation, but the fact that they deliver this day in, day out.
"Given there are almost one million hotels and B&Bs listed on TripAdvisor worldwide, the fact that the UK is home to so many winning properties speaks volumes for the quality and competitiveness of the UK hospitality industry."
