New general manager for Bristol's Grand hotel

The 182-bedroom Grand hotel in Bristol, which has recently undergone a £9m refurbishment, has appointed Tim Howes as general manger.

Howes, previously general manager of the Mercure Brigstow, will oversee the day-to-day management of the Thistle hotel, as well as help raise its profile as one of the leading hotels in Bristol.

His 20 years' experience in the hotel industry includes a one-year stint working for Disney in the USA following his graduation from the University of Surrey. He then went on to work at the Disneyland Hotel in Paris before returning to the UK to work for Marriott, Novotel and the Landmark hotel.

"The Grand's refurbishment has put us in a great position for further establishing our position as one of the best hotels Bristol has to offer, for both business and leisure guests," Howes said. "Dating back to the Victorian era, the hotel has an unrivalled heritage in the city and I'm looking forward to building on the history of the property as well as the local community's fondness for the hotel."
