Chez Bob and MonkeyNuts owner to launch grilled chicken venture Chooks
The owner of north London restaurants Chez Bob and MonkeyNuts is to launch a third venture all about grilled chicken.
Gideon Joffe - son of Giraffe founders Juliette and Russel Joffe - is opening Chooks in Muswell Hill at the end of September. The launch comes hot on the heels of Soho House's latest venture Chicken Shop, which opened in nearby Kentish Town last month.
Named after an Australian slang word for chicken, Chooks will be an 80-cover restaurant serving grilled chicken in three different sizes (quarter, half and whole) next to a drinks list of frozen margaritas, craft beers and English wines.
Other dishes will include buttermilk fried chicken with mash and gravy; and subs such as the Philly of shredded chicken, cheese sauce, pickled jalapenos, sautéed mushrooms and gravy; or the Zucchini Farm with crispy zucchini strips, fontina cheese, sweet onions, jalapeno mayo and parsley; as well as a range of salads.
Interiors, designed by Central Design Studio, will feature exposed brick walls, graffiti and neon signs as well as reclaimed wooden floors and ceilings.
Commenting on the launch, Joffe said: "This is an incredibly exciting time for me. The consumers' appetite for chicken seems insatiable and with Chooks we have tried to deliver on great food served in a great environment at great value without any pretention."
