Internet sales drive up profits

A surge in internet sales and the success of the Double Decadence pizza meant Domino's presented glowing results this week.

Pizza sales over the internet or via interactive TV rocketed 68% in the first half of the year.

At the same time, the group's Double Decadence has proven its most successful product launch to date.

A record 23 stores opened in the 26 weeks ended 3 July 2005, bringing the group's total to 380.

Sales across the stores rose by 19.1% to 97.1m, from 81.5m in 2004, while like-for-like sales in 317 established outlets grew by 8.4%.

Profit before tax increased to 22.6% to 5m before exceptional items, but grew to 5.5m when the sale of 13 corporate-owned stores was taken into account.
