Yo! Sushi unveils new approach to conveyor belt dining to woo group bookings

Yo! Sushi has unveiled a new-look conveyor belt at its soon-to-open Ashford site as the firm continues to innovate its offering.

The 2,228 sq ft site will feature three large communal tables, seating a total of 54. Each table will feature a central kaiten belt, in a trial that breaks from the firm's 20-year tradition to allow groups to be more easily sat together.

The site will also feature a larger Yo! To Go area than other locations to better capitalise on the grab and go market. Chief executive of Yo! Sushi Richard Hodgson said: "We've spent the last 18 months looking at how we fully capitalise on the opportunity we have to lead the charge in democratising Japanese food and sushi by making it more accessible for more people.

"In order to do this, we need to be able to deploy different formats and options depending on the site and customer mix."

Ashford is one of several sites subject to a rethink on the chain's trademark food delivery system as it looks to cut down food waste and highlight its hot table service items. Last month it was revealed its Westfield White City outlet would launch without a kaiten belt, while the technology would be removed from its Manchester Picadilly site.
