Yorkshire operators set to pledge jobs at BHA campaign event

Hospitality businesses in South Yorkshire are expected to pledge hundreds of job opportunities today (Tuesday) as part of the latest Big Hospitality Conversation.

Organised by the British Hospitality Association, the event taking place at Sheffield Hallam University will aim to inspire young people to consider a career in hospitality and partner them with suitable businesses.

So far the Big Hospitality Conversation has promoted the creation of more than 40,000 job opportunities for young people in 1,500 businesses. It aims to have secured 60,000 jobs by 2016.

BHA chief executive Ufi Ibrahim said: "With a wide range of sectors flourishing in Sheffield, young people have several career choices. The Big Hospitality Conversation will inform and inspire young people into hospitality and tourism career. The breath of jobs and the training available means that bright and focused young people can succeed very quickly and that hospitality offers wonderful growth prospects and job opportunities for all job seekers of any age."

Springboard chief executive Anne Pierce added: "It is recognised that work experience plays key part in influencing a person's career choice and this is why we are taking a lead role in this initiative through Springboard's quality work experience programme, Inspire, which has been developed to provide job seekers with valuable work experience."

The event at Sheffield Hallam University is the 26th Big Hospitality Conversation to date.
